Generalised weakened fictitious play

چکیده

A general class of adaptive process in games is developed, which significantly generalises weakened fictitious play (Van der Genugten, 2000) and includes several interesting fictitious-play-like processes as special cases. The general model is rigorously analysed using the best response differential inclusion, and shown to converge in games with the fictitious play property. Furthermore, a new actor–critic process is introduced, in which the only information given to a player is the reward received as a result of selecting an action— a player need not even know they are playing a game. It is shown that this results in a generalised weakened fictitious play process, and can therefore be considered as a first step towards explaining how players might learn to play Nash equilibrium strategies without having any knowledge of the game, or even that they are playing a game.

A Weakened Form of Fictitious Play in Two-Person Zero-Sum Games

Fictitious play can be seen as a numeric iteration procedure for determining the value of a game and corresponding optimal strategies. Although convergence is slow, it needs only a modest computer storage. Therefore it seems to be a good way out for analyzing large games. In this paper we consider a weakened form of ...ctitious play, which can be interpreted that players at each stage do not ha...

Generalised Fictitious Play for a Continuum of Anonymous Players

Recently, efficient approximation algorithms for finding Nash equilibria have been developed for the interesting class of anonymous games, where a player’s utility does not depend on the identity of its opponents. In this paper, we tackle the problem of computing equilibria in such games with continuous player types, extending the framework to encompass settings with imperfect information. In p...

Sampled Fictitious Play is Hannan Consistent

Fictitious play is a simple and widely studied adaptive heuristic for playing repeated games. It is well known that fictitious play fails to be Hannan consistent. Several variants of fictitious play including regret matching, generalized regret matching and smooth fictitious play, are known to be Hannan consistent. In this note, we consider sampled fictitious play: at each round, the player sam...

Fictitious Play and No-Cycling Conditions

We investigate the paths of pure strategy profiles induced by the fictitious play process. We present rules that such paths must follow. Using these rules we prove that every non-degenerate 1 2x3 game has the continuous fictitious play property, that is, every continuous fictitious play process, independent of initial actions and beliefs, approaches equilibrium in such games.
